Jovic's journey to this point hasn't been without challenges. She shared, "I’ve been working really hard for it. I’ve been wanting this one for a while now. I had a couple of tough losses, but I’m so happy to get through that barrier and get the win today."
The match was not without its dramatic moments. Jovic had the chance to serve for the match, but Paolini fought back, forcing a tiebreak. Jovic's composure under pressure was evident as she won the last five points, securing her place in the fourth round against Yulia Putintseva.
Jovic's strategy was to maintain her aggressive and controlling play throughout the match. She acknowledged, "I tried to focus on what I was doing earlier in the match, being really aggressive and controlling the play. When I served for the match, I got a little too passive. So I told myself to go out swinging and it helped in the tiebreak."
This triumph was part of a memorable day for North American teenagers. Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko also advanced, defeating Clara Tauson in a closely contested match. Paolini, the world number eight, revealed a stomach problem that affected her performance, taking a medical timeout in the opening set.
Despite her loss, Paolini praised Jovic's performance, "She’s very tough opponent already — very mature on court, not many mistakes. She’s playing good every shot, basically. So I think she has a really bright future ahead."
