Get ready for a spine-chilling cinematic experience! The team behind Don’t Move is back, and this time they’re tackling Every House Is Haunted, a project produced by the legendary Sam Raimi. But here’s where it gets intriguing: this film isn’t just another ghost story—it’s based on Ian Rogers’ 2012 short story collection, with The House on Ashley Avenue serving as the eerie foundation. Imagine an insurance investigator determined to debunk a haunted house claim, only to have his skepticism shattered by a psychic and inexplicable events he can’t ignore. Sounds like a recipe for sleepless nights, right?
According to Deadline, directors Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, the duo behind Don’t Move, are set to helm this haunting tale. Raimi, who has a financing deal with Starlight (the company that optioned Rogers’ collection), is producing alongside Zainab Azizi for Raimi Productions. Joining them is Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, known for hits like IT and Weapons. Vertigo’s Andrew Childs will executive produce, adding another layer of expertise to the project.
And this is the part most people miss: the film’s journey hasn’t been without twists. Originally set up at Netflix with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension writers Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman penning the script, its current status with the streaming giant remains unclear. Meanwhile, The Nun director Corin Hardy was initially attached to direct back in 2021 but has since moved on to other ventures.
Raimi himself has praised Rogers’ storytelling, calling him a ‘fantastic storyteller of horror’ with a knack for crafting unique, spine-tingling narratives. ‘I knew the moment I finished reading Every House Is Haunted that Ian was someone I wanted to work with,’ Raimi shared. But here’s a thought-provoking question: Can this adaptation live up to the chilling brilliance of the source material? Or will it fall into the trap of typical horror tropes?
Before diving into Every House Is Haunted, Schindler and Netto will direct Nightwatching, a psychological thriller based on Tracy Sierra’s novel and starring Mila Kunis. Talk about a busy slate!
What do you think? Is Every House Is Haunted destined to become a horror classic, or will it get lost in the crowded genre? Share your thoughts in the comments—we’d love to hear your take!
